Elmer Joseph Rigdon

Obituary:
Elmer Joseph Rigdon of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Presbyterian Manor, at the age of 85 years. He was born on April 5, 1921, in St. Francois County, the son of the late Simon and Elsie (Barnes) Rigdon. He was also preceded by his first wife, Evelyn Rigdon, a brother, Norman L. Rigdon, a sister, Alma Merritt, and an infant sister. Mr. Rigdon was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington. He proudly served his country in World War II in the U. S. Army. He served with the 489th AAA Battalion in the European Theatre and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Elmer was an active and dedicated Life Member of the VFW Post 5896, member of the American Legion Post 416, member of the AMVETS and a member of the Elks Lodge 1765. He worked at Wichman Motor Co. and Wohlschlaeger Motor Co. in Farmington. Elmer loved gardening, always sharing the bounty of his garden with others. He liked growing flowers and working in his yard. He is survived by his second wife, Thelma (Pogue) Rigdon, two sons, Tom Rigdon (Carolyn) and Jim Rigdon (Carol), all of Farmington, stepson, Geoffrey Aslinger (Robin) of Union, MO, stepdaughter, Jackie Ward of Farmington, five grandchildren, Brian Rigdon (Sandra), Mike Rigdon (Stephanie), Scott Rigdon (Christy), all of Farmington, Christy Byrd of Festus, and Kelly Roberts (Justin) of Joplin, eleven great-grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren, and twelve step-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his fellow veterans also survive. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2007. A Veterans Service will be held at 7 p.m. and an Elks Lodge Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Visitation on Saturday from 7:30 to 10:45 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington. Burial with Military Honors will be at New Calvary Cemetery.
